miakah – part four | seattle, bellevue, eastside photographer

I love this girl. She is the daughter of one of my oldest friends (and by that, I mean someone I’ve known since we were Miakah’s age, not as in OLD, old.) She (Miakah’s mom) never fails to make me laugh really hard, think about things differently, and be a really cool example of how you be a Christ follower and not be a church lady. It’s cool to see how Miss M. has grown up to be an equally amazing young lady as her mama.

Miakah’s more edgy side, brought on by some really cool Native American art we found in a side alley, and a few from the Capitol steps. I want to shoot in Olympia again – like, daily. Somebody down there, please – help a girl out?

Part two of Miakah’s senior photos. This was just a quick few shots, late in the day, where we found a little bench in the marina somewhere, but how can I not love that light?

Miakah is just unbelievably gorgeous, athletic, confident and so amazing to shoot – I am so in love with every image – so much so that I am unable to pare them down to a reasonable number. Therefore, look for parts two, three and four (!) over the next week. We shot in Olympia at the Capitol and downtown, where she insisted we stop for the most perfect ice cream ever made (so worth losing the light on these last few shots at the beach) …

Usually when I shoot a senior photo session, we talk a lot about what to wear to the photo shoot. What works best is for you to bring a number of your favorite outfits and tons of accessories, and I’ll help you narrow down what you’ll wear in the photos. If we are visiting several locations, as we did with Miakah, I will choose the clothing that best suits each specific place we’ll be shooting. What I love about this session is that with every wardrobe change, there is such an extreme difference in the mood or feel of the shots.

With these, I’ll be going backward and starting with the shots from the beach. I love that we went for carefree and maybe a little boho here. Later, we’ll go for sweet, edgy, and hmm … well? A few other things – you’ll just have to wait and see.

laura & gianni’s island glam wedding | orcas island destination wedding photographer

Beautiful wedding this summer at Rosario on Orcas Island. (Can we quite believe how behind I am on the blog? I am determined to catch up – so much to show you!) Sweeping, romantic views overlooking Cascade Bay. You’ll remember Laura and Gianni’s engagement session at Kerry Park on Queen Anne. Their wedding was nothing short of to die for – imagine a luxe, opulent affair, complete with gold details, lush florals, every detail rich perfection (very much thanks to the delightfully talented Leslie Ginnes at Patina Floral on Orcas Island) complete with a red carpet for the guests to stroll. Awesome, right? That’s the beginning … then throw into the mix the most awesome families, the Hora (so, so delightful – can we start requiring this at all weddings?), 80s Karaoke (the bride’s rendition of “My Humps” was the most magnificent moment of wedding history this far) … I could really go on for days, but I think I’ll just give you the images:

I have a pretty strict rule not to allow moms to come along on senior portrait shoots, although I’ve been known to make an exception – in this case, I had no choice, really, since the client is my son, and I couldn’t exactly send myself out for coffee, could I? We pretty much drove around Seattle finding great spots to shoot – he (the client) had some ideas, which is always awesome, and I liked Pioneer Square for him, with it’s lines and cool tones and urbany goodness everywhere. I wish I knew who to give credit to for the You Are Here mural, being as it’s one of my favorite shots and about to be huge in my home somewhere (it doesn’t fit in with my girlie cottage decor so much, so I may need to redecorate.)

I try not to have favorite clients, you know, but when you’re adorable and bring me cupcakes, it’s hard not to have a bit of a crush. Shelly and Brian were married this summer (yes, I’m still behind on my blog at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah in the sweetest, most sentimental wedding, rich with their obvious love for Christ, their family, their friends, and each other.

keisha & mike | engagement | seattle, renton, eastside wedding photography

Over this past summer, I had a little revelation. It’s not all that surprising that my favorite weddings are those in which everyone involved is more about creating a wonderful memory for their family and friends than they are impressing them. Where no one cries about the flowers being a “butter” rather “lemon” – rather, the groom gets teary when he sees his bride for the first time at the reveal, and the bride puts a higher priority on squeezing her 4-year-old flower girl rather than considering a possible crease on her gown. I’m in love with all things a little messy, a little quirky, somewhat not-so-perfect. I think I’ll take “simple” over “schmancy” any day.

Messy and quirky have really not a lot to do with Keisha and Mike’s post; however, they are dear friends, and I was unavailable to photograph their gorgeous-yet-simple-yet-filled-with-love church wedding this summer, since I was already booked with melissa and kevin’s wedding at Ray’s Boathouse, which was amazing, and I’ll tell you all about it right here very soon. Keisha and Mike (being bright and sparkly, wonderful people who have wonderful friends coming out of their ears) were lucky enough to have another talented friend shoot their wedding instead.

So, I give you Keisha and Mike’s engagement session, a lot of days late but really still a lot of fun. I promise you all that with the cooler weather approaching, I will be more diligent in catching up on my blog soon. I’ve got enough gorgeous, sunny, backlit Seattle spring and summer material to get us all through the winter blues.
